My Father Carl “Green Thumbs” Leroy Maness

My father, Carl Leroy Maness, affectionately known as “Green Thumbs,” was a man of boundless talent and enduring spirit. With hands that coaxed life from the soil, he transformed even the most unlikely patches of earth into flourishing gardens. In the snow-blanketed Carolina countryside, he built a hothouse where tomatoes thrived against the odds — a testament to his patience, ingenuity, and deep connection to nature.

An excellent stone mason, my father built many of his own homes, crafted beautiful fish ponds with cascading waterfalls that brought tranquility and wonder to all who saw them. Every stone he placed reflected his artistry and the joy he found in creating spaces of peace and beauty.
