Years ago, while winding through the rolling hills of Paso Robles, California meaning “The Pass of the Oaks”—I pulled off at a quiet rest area shaded by the arms of massive oaks. From that elevated perch, the view was breathtaking. Golden honey-colored fields stretched out like a patchwork quilt, dotted with orchards and dusted with nature’s harmony.

In the distance, a small farming community came into view—humble homes nestled among rows of crops, and field workers below moving in steady rhythm with the land.

Then, from the oak branches above, a large Black Crow descended, landing beside a wild cluster of purple and blue irises. He paused, watching. Then, with a burst of sharp, deliberate caws, he called out—his cries echoing down toward the field workers below.

They looked up, as if summoned. And just as quickly, the crow took flight—his message, whatever it was, carried off on the winds of change.
